South London (Pimlico, Battersea, Brixton, Clapham, Dulwich)

South London has multiple personalities! This region holds several different neighborhoods each with its own distinct flavour. Pimlico is an affluent district of white-collar professionals. Brixton reigns as London’s centre of Afro-Caribbean and Jamaican culture. Dulwich has a village feel similar to Highgate in North London, and a flatshare in Clapham or Battersea remains a popular option for young professionals who enjoy the vibrancy of the area as well as the open spaces of Clapham Common and Battersea Park.

The area has no shortage of tradition. The Old Vic, a famous theatre, has acted as a leader on the London stage since 1811. Additionally, the Tate Britain in Pimlico shows the cutting edge as well as the rich tradition of British Art, with a permanent collection as well as rotating exhibitions.

The region is also very much a modern place grounded in the present—music venues such as The Carling Academy in Brixton, for example, showcase international contemporary talent.

The future of South London looks bright, and it continues to grow in popularity as a place for shared houses and flatshares in London. Battersea Power Station, which was used in London’s past to generate electricity, is now undergoing conversion to a giant commercial and entertainment venue for 2008.

Battersea is also a major transportation hub. Not only does it house Clapham Junction, the busiest railway station in London and Europe, but it also houses the London Helioport.

South London offers a range of different places to live and work. Enjoy living in a flatshare in this region of contrasts!
