Central London (Soho, Belgravia, The City, Fitzrovia)
If you can afford a shared house in Central London, you should! Around this bustling hub turn London’s worlds of media, theatre and finance, not to mention excellent dining and retail opportunities. Here’s the scoop:
Belgravia is a fabulously expensive and relatively quiet residential district which houses the likes Roman Abramovich, the UK’s second richest man and the owner of the Chelsea Football Team.
The City of London, London’s financial centre, is a small city within a city and consists of one square mile. Though only 10,000 people live here, the number of people who work in the area exceeds 300,000.
Soho has gained a national reputation for Chinatown, its open, gay-friendly atmosphere and, dare we say it, the sex shops! Soho wasn’t always so vibrant: it was once farmland and then a royal park. In fact, the name 'Soho' could be derived from the call 'Soho! There goes the fox!' that was used when hunting game.
Some of the world’s greatest shopping can be found on Oxford Street, Tottenham Court Road, Carnaby Street (the hub of the Swinging Sixties) and Regent Street. Enjoy! Finally, for good old fashioned fresh air and verdure, try Regents Park -- an open parkland with a wide range of facilities and amenities.
Browse Covent Garden Market, which includes fruit and other produce, flower stalls, street performers and jewellery.
Many Londoners would love to live in the busy heart of the city and be within walking distance of their every whim. A highly recommended area to those who desire a truly capital flatshare.
